Sauls Mound
History
3
Sauls Mound is the central mound of the Pinson Complex, a ceremonial mound of the Middle Woodland culture constructed from 1-300 A.D. It is 72 feet tall, has a base about 370 feet by 300 feet, and has four corners that point to the cardinal directions north, south, east and west. One hypothesis suggests that its top was an observation point for observing the Summer Solstice and Equinox sunrises.
