U.S.S. Texas was the last steam engine-driven battleship, powered by four-cylinder triple-expansion steam engines that, at its commissioning in 1914, were the largest afloat at 27,000 horsepower. It was built by Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Co. for the U.S. Navy Bureau of Ships, and was recognized by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in 1975.
