Petaluma’s railroad station, designed in the Mission Revival style by Southern Pacific Railroad architect D. J. Patterson for the Northwestern Pacific Railroad, was built in 1914 to replace the original wooden 1871 station. It consisted of a passenger depot and baggage building and cost $7,000. As many as fourteen passenger trains a day passed through the station on their journeys between Sausalito and five North Bay counties, the last being in 1958. The station was restored in 2005 and now serves passenger trains of the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit Agency.
