Waters Farm
History
Waters Farm in Sutton, Massachusetts, preserves the long history of a colonial family homestead and its surrounding agricultural landscape. At its center is a Georgian-style house built in 1757 by Stephen Waters, representing the farm’s 18th-century origins. The site later expanded into a broader preserved historic complex, with 120 acres of protected watershed land donated to the town in 1974 and additional outbuildings such as a blacksmith shop, shingle mill, barn, wagon shed, and sugar house. The property also had later connections to businessman Charles Andrew Whitney, who lived there from 1871 to 1912, and it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
