On May 18, 1944, a US Army airplane crashed here, killing 2nd Lt. Arnold Moholt, 2nd Lt. John T. Goodwin, SSgt. Thomas L. Cater, Sgt. Merle V. Massar, and Sgt. Anthony J. Pitzulo, who gave their lives for country and humanity.
