Thomas Campbell was born in County Down, Ireland, on Feb. 1, 1763, and died at the residence of his son Alexander on Jan. 4, 1851, at the age of 91 years, 11 months, and five days. For many years he was a minister of the Secession Presbyterian Church in Ireland and Scotland. After his family arrived in America in 1802, he withdrew from the Presbyterian Communion in the United States and advocated a platform of primitive Christianity. In conjunction with his son Alexander, he labored in this work with much success. For more than forty years in Christian learning and piety he had few equals, and as a Christian minister, husband, and father he had few superiors. Strong in faith and hope, he triumphed over death and reposed in Jesus without sorrow or fear.
