Fifty years ago, as Carl I. Wheat traveled from Columbia down to Parrots Ferry on the Stanislaus River, he was inspired to revive the Ancient and Honorable Order of E Clampus Vitus, a benevolent society that had been prominent in Gold Rush days. ECV Redivivus is now a fraternal historical society dedicated to preserving Western history and lore, with thirty-three active chapters throughout California and Nevada.
