Leroy Percy State Park, in the Mississippi Delta west of Hollandale, is Mississippi’s oldest state park and an early example of the state’s park movement. Developed beginning in 1934 by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the New Deal, it was named for former U.S. senator LeRoy Percy. The park is known for its lush Delta setting of cypress trees, artesian springs, and old oaks draped with Spanish moss, reflecting the region’s wetland and woodland scenery. It continues as a public recreation area with boating and fishing on Alligator Lake, wildlife viewing, hunting areas, nature trails, picnic facilities, campsites, and cabins.
