1
Captain Webb Hall, formerly the Orphans' Schoolhouse, honors Captain Thomas Webb, one of the leading figures of Methodism in America. Webb served as an officer with Braddock's Army on these grounds in the campaign of 1755. In England in 1765, he was converted by John Wesley's preaching and was later commissioned by Wesley as a local preacher. He returned to America in 1766, where he became widely known as one of the most eloquent preachers in America and one of the most important figures in the planting of Methodism in the colonies.
