Watoga State Park near Seebert is West Virginia’s largest state park, spanning a little over 10,100 acres beside the Greenbrier River Trail and adjoining Calvin Price State Forest. First acquired in 1925 for a proposed state forest, it was redirected into a state park in 1934 and opened in 1937 after major Civilian Conservation Corps construction. Its New Deal-era landscape remains central to its character, and its historic district, with dozens of buildings and structures, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010. The park also includes the Fred E. Brooks Memorial Arboretum, dark night skies, and extensive cabins, campgrounds, trails, and recreation facilities.
