General David Wooster, born in Connecticut in 1710, was a prominent figure in eighteenth-century Connecticut society whose career encompassed roles as a Yale College graduate, lawyer, merchant, entrepreneur, and soldier, and he was actively involved in all aspects of colonial life. He served as a commissioned officer in the War of Jenkins Ear from 1739 to 1742 and at the Siege of Louisbourg in 1745, led troops during the French and Indian War from 1754 to 1763 and the American Revolution from 1775 to 1783, and was mortally wounded at the Battle of Ridgefield on April 27, 1777, while driving an invading British Army from the town. Revolutionary War veterans from Connecticut who settled in Wayne County in the early 1800s named the county seat of Wayne County for him.
