As developers expected the Montrose business district to grow north along Montrose Ave, single family homes were built along Honolulu Ave. west of Ocean View Blvd. As the shopping park progressed westward, homeowners found themselves surrounded by retail shops. Some sold, some started businesses in their homes, and others remained as long as possible. The owners of this house rented out part of it to the Jiffy Button Hole Company, which sewed button holes for the clothing trade. Today this is one of the two remaining houses, and some of the home's features still visible include the driveway, garage, and bay window, now facing a cinder block wall.
