On August 8, 2002, Princeton and Gibson County, Indiana, in the United States of America, and Tahara-cho, Japan, agreed to establish a friendship city-county affiliation to deepen friendship and confidence between their countries and to develop a permanent relationship. The affiliation was intended to further friendship and contribute to each community's development and to world peace through exchanges in education and culture, industry and economy, children's and students' works, and individuals interested in learning and sharing across different lifestyles and environments. The agreement also affirmed mutual consultation, support for a Friendship Committee, yearly programs between the communities, and a shared intention to contribute to world peace and friendly relations between the peoples of the United States of America and Japan.
