The depot was first used in 1874 as part of the Rome, Watertown and Ogdensburg Railroad, also known as the Hojack line. According to the story, a farmer was taking his wagon across the tracks when his mule stopped, and he kept saying “Ho, Jack,” meaning “get moving,” so the name stuck. The railroad ran from Sodus to Rochester through Webster, and much of its rails and ties were later taken up in Webster to make a walking trail. The station was 72 feet long and 24 feet wide and stood on Railroad Avenue in Ontario between Knickerbocker Road and Furnace Road. After an extensive fundraising drive, Peter Matthew Movers moved the station on July 5, 2006, and two more years passed before renovations were finished and it opened to the public in June 2008.
