On 7 March, 1788, under enactment of the Senate and Assembly of the State of New York, the portion of Westchester County called the Manor of Scarsdale was erected into the town of Scarsdale. As part of the bicentennial celebration of the town's creation, in October 1988 a time capsule containing items representative of the town in 1988 was buried, with a request that it not be exhumed until 2088.
