The Jams is a 30-foot, three-tier waterfall on Cache Creek in Lake County, California, about three miles above its confluence with North Fork Cache Creek. Each tier is roughly 10 feet, but the site is unusual because only the lowest drop is fully visible above ground. The upper two tiers vanish underground through talus caves formed by boulders that fell from the surrounding cliffs into the creek channel. In high water, this narrow passage becomes a class VI rapid, entirely impassable as the river drives into and through the boulder pile. Its extreme danger was tragically demonstrated by the 2003 drowning of J. R. Owens.
