On November 14, 1970, a chartered jet crashed on approach to Tri-State Airport near Huntington, claiming the lives of seventy-five members of the Marshall University football team, coaches, fans, pilots and crew. Marshall Memorial Boulevard was named in honor of those fallen members of the university family and leads from Spring Hill Cemetery to the heart of the Marshall community.
