Captain John Phinney was the first settler in Gorham, Maine. Dana Estes gave the Town of Gorham twenty-five hundred dollars, with the income to be used at centennial periods as specified in his will. The Gorham Library Assocaition came to the Town of Corham in 1936, and this lot became known as Phinney Park.
