Heritage Hill State Historical Park in Allouez near Green Bay is a fifty-six-acre open-air museum that preserves and interprets the history of northeastern Wisconsin through endangered historic buildings and reconstructed settings. Created after the property’s earlier use as a prison farm ended, the park was approved in 1972 and expanded over the next two decades with more than twenty-five buildings and additional acreage. Its four themed areas trace fur trade beginnings, Green Bay’s growth, immigrant farm life, and Fort Howard’s military past. With twenty-six historic and reproduction structures, more than nine thousand artifacts, and year-round educational programs, it serves as both a preservation site and a teaching center.
