Doctors House, built in 1888 by developer Ellis T. Byram, is one of Glendale’s few surviving Victorian-era homes and a rare example of the city’s nineteenth-century domestic architecture. Its name reflects a succession of four physician owners who altered the house for offices, bedrooms, and family use. Later owners included actress Nell Shipman, who kept a menagerie there, and the Dzaich and Kordich families, who divided it into two residences and lived there until 1980. Threatened with demolition, the house was moved to Brand Park in September 1980, restored with authentic methods, and reopened as a museum in 1984.
