This building was constructed in 1896 by the North Pacific Brewery and rebuilt in 1928-29 by the city of Astoria to serve as a fire station. City Commission members were J C Brook, Mayor John R Arnold in 1928, Anton Sorensen in 1929, E C Gearhart, Victor Seeborg, and Lloyd Van Dusen. The city manager was George Garrett, the fire chief was C E Foster, Uhbrand and Lervick were contractors, and J E Wicks was the architect.
