The Webster County, Iowa Freedom Rock tells the stories of veterans and community figures connected with Fort Dodge. Darrell R. Lindsay graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1938, was killed in action in France on 9 August 1944, and was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. Willis H. Moeller graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1940 and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross at the Battle of Kagoshima Bay. Dr. William E. Ryan was a founding member of the Fort Dodge Dragoons, started the first Frontier Days Celebration, and led that event for 30 years. It also honors veterans of all branches of service who have P.T.S.D. and includes a flag made with paint containing the ashes of 24 veterans in honor of all who served.
