Gardner Swamp Wildlife Area is a protected 1,180-acre tract in Door County, Wisconsin, managed by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources from land first acquired in 1958 and later organized under a 1980 master plan. Named for Gardner Swamp, it includes upland deciduous forest, grassland, marsh, shrub wetland, and extensive forested wetland, the dominant cover. Keyes Creek runs through the area, influencing both its ecology and local history; support for land consolidation grew partly because beaver dams caused frequent flooding. The creek also supports trout and fish spawning, while the broader area provides important habitat for wetland wildlife and the critically endangered Hine’s emerald dragonfly.
