History
Pioneer Farms in Austin, Texas, preserves part of the former Frederick and Harriet Jourdan farm, rooted in a land grant made in 1844 and occupied by the family from 1852. Once part of a farm that grew to about 2,000 acres, the surviving 95-acre site was donated by the Jourdans’ grandchildren in 1956 and established as a history museum in 1975. It brings together reconstructed and relocated buildings, including homes, a blacksmithery, a stone blockhouse, a stagecoach stop, a rural village, and other farm structures, to show everyday life, work, and settlement in 19th-century Central Texas.
