Belair Mansion was built circa 1740 by Samuel Ogle, Governor of Maryland. Over the years it became known as the "House of Governors" because governors Thomas Bladen, Benjamin Tasker Sr., Benjamin Ogle I, Oden Bowie, and Christopher Lowndes were also associated with it at different times.
