Sodus Point Light on Lake Ontario in New York preserves a long-serving lighthouse complex whose original navigational role has given way to historic preservation. The surviving white, red-trimmed cast-iron lighthouse tower stands on a concrete and stone pier beside a limestone keeper’s quarters built in 1871, now a museum displaying a 3 1/2-order Fresnel lens. A pier light and shore light operated here together from 1834 to 1901, and the dwelling remained in practical use as Coast Guard housing until 1984. Owned by the Village of Sodus Point and managed by the Sodus Bay Historical Society, the property is valued for both its maritime history and its architecture.
