The townships of Berkeley Heights and New Providence honored members of the Armed Forces of the United States who served in the Korean War from 1950 to 1955, men who served in the Army or Navy of the United States of America in World War I from 1917 to 1919, those remembered as hero dead in World War II from 1941 to 1945, and members of the Armed Forces of the United States who served in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War from 1961 to 1975. New Providence paid homage to the memory of Louis Burgmiller, Anthony V. Debisco, Jr., James J. Delduga, Vincent Herbst, Henry J. Pickell, Henry L. Seidentop, Ralph Swerdloff, and Cleaston Patterson, who gave the last full measure of devotion to their country. The tributes included words from Daniel Webster on liberty and readiness to guard and defend it, and from Douglas MacArthur on the suffering and wounds borne by the soldier.
