The Jungle Prada Site in St. Petersburg, on the eastern shore of Boca Ciega Bay, preserves part of a Tocobaga settlement occupied for roughly 600 years, from about 1000 to 1600 CE, and is also identified as the landing place of the Narváez expedition. Once part of a village complex with mounds stretching more than three miles along the bay, it now retains a ceremonial plaza mound and a much larger midden mound after most of the earthworks were destroyed by 20th-century development. The site is significant for both Indigenous history and Florida’s early colonial past, including recognition as the location of the first Catholic Mass in Florida.
