The 9/11 attacks took nearly 3,000 lives, including 246 people on the doomed flights, 125 at the Pentagon, and 2,606 in New York City at and around the Twin Towers and among the response teams on the ground. Of the 2,606 killed in New York, 411 were emergency responders from the New York City Fire Department, the New York City Police Department, the Port Authority Police Department, and EMTs from private emergency medical services.
