Sumner Archibald Cunningham, born in 1843 and died in 1913, was a Confederate soldier and the founder, owner, and editor of the Confederate Veteran from January 1893 until December 1913. He was remembered for gathering the history of his people, written in tears but radiant with glory. A member of Company B, 41 Tennessee Infantry, Army of Tennessee, he participated in and was captured at the Battle of Fort Donelson. After being exchanged, he returned to the army and fought in the One Hundred Days Battle from Dalton to Atlanta, Georgia, then marched with the army to Tennessee and was in the battles of Franklin and Nashville.
