At Georges Creek Cemetery, a tabernacle built in 1909 served summer worship, funerals, and community gatherings, and many large revivals and camp meetings were held there after it replaced the old brush arbors. Since 1892, people have met on the 1st Saturday in May to tend the graves of those buried in these hallowed grounds. Veterans of the Texas Revolution and later wars are buried here, some in unmarked graves known only to God. The cemetery has stood in four counties over time: Navarro, Johnson, Hood, and Somervell, and it is regarded as sacred ground.
