A statue was carved from the trunk of a 250-year-old oak tree under whose spreading limbs neighborhood meetings and church services were held before the log church was built on this site in 1783. The tree trunk was 5 feet in diameter and its limbs spread over 100 feet. The carving honors the circuit-riding preachers of the era and was commissioned by Robert P. Van Voorhis Sr., designed by Frank Roskov, and carved by Stanley Mills Monofiga.
