Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park is a monumental sculptural fountain in Houston’s Uptown district, built as a companion to Williams Tower and developed with Gerald D. Hines from a design by John Burgee Architects with Philip Johnson. Conceived as a horseshoe of rushing water, its semi-circular form rises 64 feet to mirror the tower’s 64 stories and stands amid 118 Texas live oaks. Water flows over both sides in broad sheets, creating a striking urban waterfall on an unusually large scale. Renamed in 2009 to honor Hines, the park was also publicly acquired to help ensure its long-term preservation as one of Houston’s most recognizable public landscapes.
