In the early twentieth century, small villages in Ohio often centered community pride on high school athletics, and Bellpoint's basketball teams became a notable example. From 1922 to 1925, the Bellpoint Buccaneers competed in the Ohio State Invitational Tournament for the state basketball championship. After participating in 1922, the 1923 team lost to Plattsburg by a single point, but the 1924 and 1925 teams won the title of State Basketball Champions. In an era when the game moved more slowly, with a center jump after each score and forty points considered a major achievement, these "Cinderella" teams became an enduring source of pride for the Bellpoint community and an integral part of Delaware County history. Bellpoint High School no longer stands. The 1924 and 1925 Class B State Basketball Champions were Harold Bean, Paul Freshwater, Robert Butts, Bill Macklin, Fred Cox, Harold McMillen, Harold Davis, Stanley Moore, Frank Dewey, Marion Thomas, Delmar Dulin, Frank Watson, and coach Guy Zimmer.
