Buffalo Mountain is a prominent 12,781-foot peak in central Colorado’s Gore Range, rising above the upper Blue River valley in the Eagles Nest Wilderness northwest of Frisco. The sixth-highest peak in both the range and the wilderness, it is especially notable for its steep relief, climbing about 2,800 feet above South Willow Creek in a single mile. Its slopes drain into Blue River tributaries, and its alpine subarctic climate brings long snowy winters, cool to warm summers, and year-round precipitation. Known for climbing and skiing routes such as the north, or Silver, Couloir, it remains a familiar landmark and backcountry destination.
