Cadet Charles K. Hodge of the U.S. Military Academy, a member of the Third Class of 1839-40, died suddenly while visiting his parents at Roxbury, Connecticut, on the thirty-first of August 1839 at the age of 19 years, 9 months, and 4 days. Called from life in the buoyancy of youth, he had not yet been chilled by earth's cares or changed by life's vicissitudes, and his classmates remembered him with respect and regret for his loss.
