Bluewater Lookout Complex
Nature
Bluewater Lookout Complex is a historic fire lookout in Lincoln National Forest near Weed, New Mexico, established in 1937 around a 45-foot steel tower topped by a small cab, with a wood-frame cabin and storage shed. The site appears to blend older and newer elements: the tower may have been built in 1917 for the United States Weather Bureau before the Forest Service bought and moved it here in 1937, when the other buildings were erected. Added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 28, 1988, it preserves a working-era fire detection site that reflects how southern New Mexico mountain lookouts operated.
