Military
Texas honors its sons whose valor and devotion defeated the federal enemy at Mansfield on April 8, 1864, and then drove it from the Red River valley in several bloody engagements, sparing Texas the physical ruin war brought to every other southern state. In the Red River Campaign of 1864, Texas commands included brigades and units in Walker's Division, Mouton's Division, Bee's Division, Major's Division, Steele's Division, and Green's Cavalry Corps, including infantry, cavalry, partisan rangers, and batteries under the brigades of Thomas N. Wall, Horace Randal, William R. Scurry, Camille J. Polignac, Xavier B. Debray, Augustus C. Buchel, Walter P. Lane, Arthur P. Bagby, and William H. Parson.
