Ash Fork Maintenance Camp #1
Transportation
20
Built circa 1926-27 by the Arizona Department of Transportation, this Moenkopi Sandstone building has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Ash Fork Camp location was chosen because it stood at a junction of the Old Trails and Grand Canyon-Nogales Highways leading south and at a junction of the Santa Fe Railroad. Ash Fork Camp played a significant role in maintaining Route 66 during the great westward migration.
