In March 1927, Major H.O.D. Segrave set a world record and became the first to break the 200 mph barrier with a two-way average run of 203.792 mph. Within a one-hour period, he drove the 1000 horsepower Sunbeam Mystery. Segrave experienced severe wind buffet against the head rest and was the first to wear a hard crash helmet.
