Big Pine Mountain is a summit in California’s San Rafael Mountains within the Transverse Ranges. At 6,803 feet or slightly more, it is the highest point in the San Rafael Mountains, the Dick Smith Wilderness, and Santa Barbara County. Its elevation is great enough to bring winter snowfall, distinguishing it from much of the surrounding landscape. The mountain and the nearby country were also severely affected by the Zaca Fire in 2007, an event that became a significant part of the area’s recent history.
