Bobby Brown State Park is named in memory of Robert T. Brown, a lieutenant junior grade in the U.S. Naval Reserve, born January 11, 1920, the son of Congressman and Mrs. Paul Brown of Elberton, Georgia. Brown was reported missing in action on February 22, 1944, and killed in action on January 11, 1946, during World War II while serving in the Pacific on the submarine U.S.S. Scorpion. The dedication also honors Lt. Brown and the men and women of Elbert County and this section of the state who paid the supreme sacrifice in World War II.
