Renowned engineer James B. Eads, born in Lawrenceburg in 1820, lived in this home until his family moved to St. Louis in 1833. A self-taught engineer, he is known for designing the bridge across the Mississippi River in 1869 and also produced ironclads for the Union during the Civil War.
