On December 29, 1890, the Chief Big Foot Massacre took place. Chief Big Foot was a great chief of the Sioux Indians, and Colonel Forsyth was in command of the U.S. troops. Surviving relatives and other Ogallala and Cheyenne River Sioux Indians honored the memory of the massacre.
