Eaglecrest Ski Area is a public, municipally operated ski area on Douglas Island across Gastineau Channel from Juneau and the only ski area in southeast Alaska. It serves as both a local winter recreation center and a gateway to surrounding mountains. The mountain offers 640 acres of lift-served terrain, a 1,620-foot vertical drop, 36 marked alpine runs, Nordic trails, and access to backcountry terrain. Heavy snowfall shapes its long season, which usually runs from early December into mid-April, with a terrain park opening when conditions allow. Its strong community role includes outreach programs and lessons for students with physical and learning disabilities.
