At 64 West Mill Street, H. C. "Schroeder" built a new storehouse in Bayfield by 1901, and between 1910 and 1919 additions on the east and south sides more than doubled its size and gave it the shape it retained for more than 90 years; Sanborn fire maps of 1910 and 1919 indicate adobe-filled walls, one of which appears in a 1907 photo of the original building. At 105 West Mill Street, part of a half block where the Coulson family established a lumber and feed operation, a building that served for several years as an office or small storefront was converted into the town's first telephone exchange, which operated from August 1910 until about 1940 before moving two blocks east to the original Newland house. At 95 West Mill Street, the Arnold Trading Co. built the west wooden half of a building about 1899-1900, Don and Victor Coulson acquired the property in the summer of 1900, and in 1901 D. C. Coulson planned a 25 by 40 foot extension to the current store room, likely added to the original structure; a northwest corner addition appears to have functioned as a loading dock with large sliding doors, and the east stone half was built by the Coulson brothers in 1904.
