Sierra Blanca is a complex ancient volcano that rises more than 7,300 feet above Tularosa Basin to a peak of 12,003 feet. Vertical geologic movement between the ranges and basin is about 2 miles. The San Andrés Mountains on the west side of Tularosa Basin are uplifted on the east side and tilted westward. The elevation here is 4,670 feet.
