Bertrand Chaffee Hospital was established on the site of the Chaffee Homestead, using the homestead on East Hill that Bertrand Chaffee, in his will, directed should be occupied by a hospital to be known as Bertrand Chaffee Hospital. The hospital was incorporated in January 1946. Bertrand Chaffee lived from 1837 to 1916, and Jennie Richmond Chaffee lived from 1850 to 1934.
