History
2
When Rhode Island, by legislation from 1844 to 1850, repudiated her Revolutionary debt, Dr. John W. Richmond left that state for the Borough of Stonington and chose this as his family burial place because he was unwilling for his own remains and those of his family to be part of the common earth of a repudiating state. Henrietta Richmond, wife of Dr. John W. Richmond, was born Nov. 29, 1782, and died July 17, 1849. Dr. John W. Richmond was born Sept. 25, 1772, and died March 4, 1857. John H. Richmond was born March 8, 1816, and died Aug. 8, 1868. A trust fund was given to the Town of Stonington to keep this ground and walls in good repair forever, with town records for 1850 and 1851 cited.
