Elm Point is a small, uninhabited cape on Lake of the Woods in northern Minnesota and a practical exclave of the United States, bordered by water on three sides and by the Canadian First Nation community of Buffalo Point on the north. Like the nearby Northwest Angle, it reflects the irregular international boundary created when nineteenth-century surveying errors placed the border slightly south of the intended 49th parallel. Part of Elm Point is private land and part belongs to a state wildlife management area. Its remoteness is compounded by a long-standing county boundary dispute involving Lake of the Woods County and Roseau County.
